The REEDCOB® Winter/Summer School is an online and onsite workshop funded by CAS Studio and held together with several international partners.

As a participant you will receive a theoretical but mostly a practical hands on experience on sustainable architecture building techniques. Participants will also be part of a living community of architects, engineers, designers and artists impacting the environment and society in a positive way.

The REEDCOB® School participants can now be involved in 3 moments of the year: in February in Oman, online in July and in Egypt in September.

STORY OF REEDCOB®

The REEDCOB® technology started in 2013, with a partnership established between
CAS Studio and Eng. Fernando Cartaxo, to develop a sustainable building technology
made with earth and reeds. In 2014 FCT/NOVA of Lisbon joined the partnership.

In 2018 the first REEDCOB ® Summer School was held in Portugal and since 2021,
is being held online and in Egypt with our partners EZBET Project, BENAA Foundation,
Kairos City Lab and ASU Cairo.

In 5 years, the event had more than 150 participants from 15 countries and international
universities such as Stuttgart University, Louvain University, FCT Nova and ASU Cairo.

The REEDCOB community is growing! The German Technical University in Oman,
the Oman Think Urban and The Earthen Building Initiative are now partners.

WHAT THE PARTICIPANTS SAY

“We built with reed canes, earth and other natural materials. It was really informative and we had so much fun. This was a real turning point to my field of study but also in my lifestyle and in my personal life. I can’t wait to participate again in upcoming summer schools.”
Amina Omar

ASU Cairo, 2018 and 2021 participant

“We had a super rich experience with international students and learning from all types of experts, from CAS Studio, researchers and architecture teachers from all around the world.”
Inés Lobo

Faculty of Architecture of Louvain, 2019 participant

“When I learned about the Reedcob Summer School, I immediately signed in.
It not only felt great to touch the earth and build with my own hands but to really understand natural materials and their importance.
I definitely recommend this summer school to open your mind.”
Leonie Ederer

IUSD, University of Stuttgart, 2019 participant
