As a participant you will receive a theoretical but mostly a practical hands on experience on sustainable architecture building techniques. Participants will also be part of a living community of architects, engineers, designers and artists impacting the environment and society in a positive way.<\/p>\n

REEDCOB\u00ae Summer School: A New Chapter Ahead<\/h1>\n

It began in 2013 with the creation of the REEDCOB\u00ae technology\u2014a groundbreaking building system made with earth and reeds. This effort was born out of a partnership between CAS Studio and Eng. Fernando Cartaxo, later joined by FCT\/NOVA of Lisbon in 2014, marking the beginning of a commitment to research and sustainable building practices.<\/p>\n

Since 2018, our Summer School has carried this mission forward, becoming a transformative platform for creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning. With editions in Portugal and Egypt, we\u2019ve welcomed participants from over 14 nationalities\u2014students and young professionals from architecture, design, engineering, and the arts\u2014brought together by a shared passion for shaping the future of sustainable design.<\/p>\n

Each year, participants have had the chance to learn from expert lecturers\u2014renowned professionals and academics\u2014on topics like bio-based materials (earth, fibers, lime), vernacular architecture, bioclimatics, structural design, and contemporary architecture. Together, we\u2019ve explored innovative solutions inspired by tradition and driven by contemporary challenges.<\/p>\n

After taking a brief pause in 2023 and 2024, we are recharging to come back renewed. <\/p>\n

With fresh ideas, new challenges, and exciting opportunities, the next chapter of our Summer School is set to be an inspiring experience.<\/p>\n

Despite all efforts to ensure that the information presented is free of graphical errors, these can occur. We will correct them as soon as possible.
The photographs presented on the website are merely illustrative and do not replace the consultation of product specifications to find out about its characteristics. In case of doubt, please contact us.
CAS Studio reserves the right to change at any time the information presented on: products or services and their specifications, photos, prices, campaigns, commercial conditions and services.
The prices indicated for each product or service already include the value of VAT, calculated according to the legal rate in force in Portugal. In the case of services performed outside Portugal, the price will follow the legal rate in force.
To the prices indicated for each product, transfer fees from the buyer’s bank must be added, which will have to be borne by the buyer.<\/p>\n

Cancellation of the workshop will only be considered, as a result of not reaching the minimum number of participants established by the organization or for reasons that make it impossible to host and accommodate participants due to restrictions of Covid-19, which may be unavailable without prior notice, so it will be informed of this situation, with the right to reimbursement of the respective amount paid.
In all cases except those mentioned above, cancellation and refund will not be made.<\/p>\n

3. Obligations of Participants<\/p>\n

The Participant must comply with these general conditions and respect them, namely:<\/p>\n

1) Do not use false identities;<\/p>\n

2) Insert personal data and correct addresses, so that CAS Studio can properly process registrations and inscriptions;<\/p>\n

3) The Participant is responsible for the veracity of the data communicated to CAS Studio and undertakes to keep them updated;<\/p>\n

4) The Participant is fully responsible for any delay or inability to participate in the seminar\/workshop, namely in the Online week via the Zoom platform or in the Onsite practical week, due to error or insufficiency of the data communicated by them;<\/p>\n

5) It is the Participant’s sole responsibility to purchase transport to the Winter\/Summer School destination and intermediate accommodation until the Summer School starting day, as well as the return transport, including respective cancellation and refund insurance;<\/p>\n

6) It is the Participant’s responsibility to present to the airlines or border control, proof of completion of TAAN (Nucleic acid amplification test: RT-PCR, NEAR, TMA, LAMP, HDA, CRISPR, SDA, etc.)) or Antigen Test (TRAg) to screen for SARS-CoV-2 infection, with a negative result, including passengers in transit, in accordance with the rules in force in the Winter\/Summer School destination country as well as the transit countries to the destination of the trip. The Winter\/Summer School organization will support the Participant with info where to get this proof on return trip.<\/p>\n

7) It is the Participant’s sole responsibility to follow the policies of each country, namely of the country where the practical part of the Winter\/Summer School takes place, in relation to the restrictions of SARS-CoV-2\/Covid 19 as well as other viruses and local health requirements, such as presenting a certificate of vaccination, immunity or negative test valid in accordance with national laws, in the Summer School destination country and the transit countries. The organization of the Winter\/Summer School, upon written request by email, will help the participant to obtain the necessary information.<\/p>\n

8) It will be the Participant’s sole responsibility to purchase full coverage health insurance for the country where the Winter\/Summer School is held, including coverage for Covid 19 in case of illness.<\/p>\n

9) The Winter\/Summer School organization is not responsible in any case of accident during the trip or during the event, in which the participant is involved.<\/p>\n

10) Each participant is asked to bring their own safety and protection equipment for practical work, such as shoes and gloves, among others. Regarding the SARS-CoV-2\/Covid 19 protection, each Participant should bring their own protection such as masks and according with the country\u2019s regulations.<\/p>\n

11) It is the participant’s sole responsibility to obtain the respective entry visa in the Winter\/Summer School destination country, as well as the necessary contacts with the responsible bodies such as Embassies and Consulates to obtain it.
The Winter\/Summer School organization will send the Participant a visa letter on request to support the Participant\u2019s visa application. Please note that we can only issue visa letters once we have received the payment for the course. If you require a hard copy of the letter there will be a \u20ac30 charge to cover courier expenses.<\/p>\n

4. Privacy and Personal Data Protection (GDPR)<\/p>\n

Participants have the right to correct and restrict the personal information used by the Winter\/Summer School organization.<\/p>\n

The Participant\u2019s personal information is gathered from what is provided to the Winter\/Summer School organization directly on the application form, by email or via the Winter\/Summer School website.<\/p>\n

The Winter\/Summer School organization uses the Participant\u2019s personal information to provide the Participant a Winter\/Summer School event. The lawful reasons for processing the Participant\u2019s personal data are contractual, to fulfil legal obligations and for legitimate business interests.<\/p>\n

When processing, using and transferring the Participant\u2019s personal data, then the Winter\/Summer School organization makes sure it does this securely ensuring the necessary protection is in place.<\/p>\n

The Winter\/Summer School\u2019s organization keeps the Participant\u2019s personal information securely for as long as necessary.<\/p>\n

In accordance with the provisions of Law 67\/98 of 26 October, on the Protection of Personal Data, we inform you that the processing of personal data collected on the website https:\/\/summerschool.cas-at.com is the responsibility of CAS Studio and that they reserve the processing of registrations and communication with Participants\/Customers (information requests, possible complaints), statistical analysis, as well as their use for direct marketing purposes.<\/p>\n

E mailings are called Newsletters, as well as SMS, MMS or other forms of automatic call sent periodically to the Participant with information about offers, news and promotions. The data used for its submission are provided to CAS Studio when completing the Participant registration.<\/p>\n

Under the law, all participants have the right to access, rectify and cancel any data that directly concern them, through the following means:

5. Online registration<\/p>\n

In order to register in the Winter\/Summer School event through the workshop’s official website, it is necessary to register as a participant, through the payment on the bottom of the page.<\/p>\n

You will receive an automatic email confirming your registration and payment.<\/p>\n

CAS Studio informs that this campaign have a limited number of registrations, therefore, in the absence of registration availability, CAS Studio undertakes to inform the Client as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

The payments options are PayPal, Credit Card or through bank transfer. For the bank transfer option, the organization will provide the bank account details if request by the participant through e-mail to summerschool@cas-at.com.<\/p>\n

All the payment and transfer fees are in the participants responsibility.<\/p>\n

6. Confirmation of registrations<\/p>\n

After registration, CAS Studio checks both the availability of the place online and Onsite and will send a confirmation e-mail to the participant after the payment is confirmed. When payment is made by bank transfer, confirmation of registration is made after payment has been confirmed.<\/p>\n

CAS Studio only confirms on business days, as neither weekends nor holidays are counted for the estimate of sending confirmation.<\/p>\n

7. Cancellations and returns<\/p>\n

1) Taking into account that the services marketed are for professional use, any situation of cancellation and\/or return will be resolved in accordance with the Portuguese legislation in force, for which the Client must contact CAS Studio.<\/p>\n

2) In case of cancellation of the Onsite workshop, there is no refund of value, if the cause is outside the organization\u2019s responsibility, natural or pandemic, or if the person becomes ill during the period of the workshop.<\/p>\n

3) As such, the participant must ensure their air travel, as well as hire a travel health service, in case they have to leave the place and return to their home, as referred to in paragraphs 6), 7), 8) and 9) from point 3.<\/p>\n

4) The participant bears the costs of cancellation and extradition in the event of contract termination.<\/p>\n

5) CAS Studio reserves the right, at its sole discretion and at least 3 weeks in advance of the scheduled start date of a workshop, to cancel or postpone its realization or part of it, in the event that it has not been reached the minimum number of confirmed entries or in any other fortuitous or force majeure situation.<\/p>\n

6) If the workshop is postponed, new dates, times and locations will be announced within 5 working days from the date originally scheduled for the start.<\/p>\n

7) In case of cancellation of the scheduled course, or if the new dates and times established for a postponed course do not meet the Customer’s convenience, the
Participant\/Customer may choose one of the following options:<\/p>\n

a) Full refund of the amount paid for registration;<\/p>\n

b) Timely enrolment in the course on another occasion when it will be announced and promoted;<\/p>\n

c) Use of the amount paid for enrolling in another course, supplementing it, if smaller, or being reimbursed for the difference, if greater.<\/p>\n

8) In case of cancellation of the scheduled course, CAS Studio is not responsible for reimbursing any transportation and accommodation costs purchased by the Participant\/Customer under the pretext of participating in the workshop. Participant is responsible to purchase transportation and accommodation with a cancel\/refund insured option.<\/p>\n

9) By participating in the event, the participant gives up their image right to be used in promotional materials for the courses.<\/p>\n

10) These \u201cTerms and Conditions\u201d may be changed at any time, without prior notice, at its sole discretion.<\/p>\n

11) The remaining rules applied to the functioning of professional training must be consulted in the \u201cTraining Regulations\u201d of CAS Studio.<\/p>\n

8. Payment<\/p>\n

CAS Studio offers the Participant the following payment methods:
a) PayPal
b) Credit card
c) Bank transfer;<\/p>\n

All payment fees and bank charges must be paid by the Participant.
All fees are made payable in EUR, details for payment are on the website.<\/p>\n

After the Payment it\u2019s asked to the Participant to please make sure there is a clear reference on it so the organization can trace the payment.<\/p>\n

9. Alternative Dispute Resolution Entity (CNIACC)<\/p>\n

10. Medical Information and Student Health<\/p>\n

After registration, the Participants must inform the Winter\/Summer School organization of any relevant medical information which may affect the Participant\u2019s health or ability to participate in the event, including any allergies and\/or medication needs.
Participants must advise the event\u2019s organisation of any special dietary needs.
If Participants do not inform the event\u2019s organization of a relevant medical condition or if the Participant\u2019s requires regular supervision for medical reasons, the Winter\/Summer School organization may send the Participant\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

In these circumstances there will be no refund of fees and Participant\u2019s must pay the full cost of the Participant\u2019s return travel.<\/p>\n

In the case of a Participant with a disability the Winter\/Summer School organization will assess whether it can provide the best appropriate care in the leased event and the decision to accept the Participant will be based on this.<\/p>\n

The Winter\/Summer School organization will ask an emergency contact to contact in case of emergency medical treatment. If the Summer School organization cannot make contact, then a responsible member of the organization will make a decision on treatment as recommended by a doctor. If there is a health risk caused by a virus or epidemic, the Winter\/Summer School will take professional\/government advice.<\/p>\n

The below are examples of non-prescribed medications which may be given to students to treat minor illnesses or injuries: Paracetamol, Travel sickness tablets, Cough and throat medication, Anaesthetic creams and sprays, Spray for blocked noses, Ibuprofen, Antihistamine tablets\/sprays, Plasters, Eye drops.
Participants must inform the Summer School organization if the Participant do not wish to be given such non-prescribed medications.<\/p>\n

12. Personal property<\/p>\n

Participants are required to arrange full insurance cover for valuable items of property, particularly laptops, iPads etc., which are not covered or responsibility of the Summer School organization.<\/p>\n

The Winter\/Summer School organization does not accept responsibility for theft or loss or damage to Participant property. Participants will be asked to pay for any damage they cause to property or equipment. The Winter\/Summer School organization and partners decision in such cases is final.<\/p>\n

13. Extra activities<\/p>\n

Several extra activities parallel to the main Winter\/Summer School event will be organized, such as sand surfing, music concerts and sightseeing. All the participants must be insured to possible accidents during these activities.
If an extra activity such as a night in the desert is included in the Winter\/summer School fee, all the others (including transportation and accommodation) are not included in the fee and in case of interest by the Participant it will be paid by the Participant.<\/p>\n

14. Communication<\/p>\n

The Winter\/Summer School organization prefers to use electronic communication where possible. After the registration and payment, the Winter\/Summer School organization will ask for an emergency contact who speaks English and is available 24 hours a day.<\/p>\n

15. Behaviour<\/p>\n

By signing the application form and registering, the Participants agree to support the Winter\/Summer School organization in the enforcement of the rules set out in the course information.
Participants who break these rules, fail to follow instructions given by members of organization staff or display any unacceptable behaviour will be asked to leave the Winter\/Summer School event or will be suspended from it without refund of fees. Any extra costs incurred will also be the Participant\u2019s responsibility.
The Winter\/Summer School organization and partners decision in these circumstances is final. In the decision of the organization and partners is considered the well-being of all Participants and staff and the effect on the event as a whole.
All the Participants should respect the differences, the local culture, dressing habits and religious beliefs, as well as to study the cultural and social specificities of the country where the Winter\/Summer School will be developed.<\/p>\n

16. Complaints Procedure<\/p>\n

Participants should tell the Winter\/Summer School organization immediately if they have any questions or complaints, so that the Winter\/Summer School organization can help the Participants quickly.<\/p>\n

17. Force Majeure<\/p>\n

Also known as Acts of God, certain events and occurrences are outside of the Winter\/Summer School organization and partner\u2019s control and the Summer School organization does not accept liability for such events that may disrupt the course or the Participant\u2019s travel. Fees are non-refundable in case of Force Majeure.<\/p>\n

18. General<\/p>\n

The Winter\/Summer School organization will endeavour to give at least 3 weeks notice if the course needs to be cancelled. In these circumstances and if the case, the Winter\/Summer School organization will refund any fees paid according with the cancellation and refund policy in the article 7. If the cancellation is beyond our control and due to Force Majeure no refunds will be given (please see Force Majeure section above).<\/p>\n

Participants agree the Winter\/Summer School organization can use images and videos of them in promotional materials and on the website. Participant\u2019s personal identities will not be revealed.<\/p>\n

The official language of the Summer School event is English.<\/p>\n

The Winter\/Summer School organization keeps the right to share or not, the lecturer\u2019s information presented in the lectures, in documents including pdf\u2019s, videos, images and photos, according with their individual privacy and authorship, copyrights policy. Nevertheless, the Winter\/Summer School organization will provide when possible answers to questions made by the Participants during the event.<\/p>\n

The Winter\/Summer School organization will provide appropriate supervision for the Participants. It will be provided appropriate supervision in the accommodation and on all the event\u2019s activities, extra activities and trips.<\/p>\n
